Product Description
Abalyn D-E Methyl Ester of Rosin, is an amber-colored, near-neutral, tacky, viscous liquid. It is resinous in nature with clarity and high refractive index, low vapor pressure, high boiling point, and good thermal stability. It has excellent surface-wetting properties. These physical properties, plus its wide compatibility, make it useful in a variety of applications, including lacquers, inks, paper coatings, varnishes, adhesives, sealing compounds, plastics and wood preservatives. To assure minimum odor of products in which it is used, it is given a special steam sparging treatment.

Compatibility and Solubility
Compatible at all ratios, or in limited but practically useful proportions, with nitrocellulose, ethylcellulose, chlorinated rubber, and most other film-formers; with water-soluble film-formers such as starch, casein, and glue; with natural and synthetic rubbers, natural and synthetic resins, waxes, and asphalt. Incompatible with cellulose acetate and polyvinyl acetate.

Soluble in esters, ketones, alcohols, ethers, coal tar, petroleum hydrocarbons, and vegetable and mineral oils. Insoluble in water.

Solubility Parameters, 50% resin concentration: 7.0-11.1 in Class I solvents - weakly hydrogen-bonded; 7.4-12.0 in Class II solvents - moderately hydrogen-bonded; 9.5-12.7 in Class III solvents - strongly hydrogen-bonded.

Packaging
Abalyn D-E Methyl Ester of Rosin is supplied in 200 kg open-head steel drums, on pallets containing 4 drums each, from Eastman production facilities in The Netherlands and from warehouses located in Europe.

Storage
Inside storage and "first in first out" inventory control is recommended. Recommended storage: in original packaging, dry, free from contamination, below 30°C.

Resins are prone to gradual oxidation, some more so than others. This could result in darkening and/or it could have an adverse effect on the solubility of the resin in organic solvents or on its compatibility with polymers. Accordingly, it is recommended that strict control of inventory be observed at all times, taking care that the oldest material is used first.

Shelf life: Abalyn D-E Methyl Ester of Rosin material will remain within product specification limits for a period of at least twelve months after shipment from Eastman's production facilities in the Netherlands, provided recommended storage conditions are observed. However, as we can neither anticipate the conditions under which the resin is processed, nor the end use applications for which it is used, we recommend that the material be tested upon receipt.
